LCDR 2-4-0T No 73 at in c1900. One of the Aeolus Class 2-4-0Ts (a class of 4 engines built 1860/61). We are 90% certain it’s standing in the small down yard at Kearsney Station (2 to 3 miles from Dover Priory). The ridge in the distance is Old Park Hill on maps of the time . Bradley’s book on LCDR engines states they were all allocated to Dover by 1896 for use on the Faversham stopping trains and the Deal locals. Given the round headcode disc on top of the smokebox this is likely to be a Faversham to Dover stopping train (Deal headcodes were different shapes and positions), perhaps waiting for an overtaking express to pass?
