On 11.00 a.m. Newcastle - King's Cross
diverted from the ECML on this Sunday through Stockton. It had stopped to take water. 'Seagull' was always highly regarded as one of 34A's best.

The diversion left the main line at Ferryhill south of Durham and ran on the old mineral lines (ex-Clarence Railway) to Norton via Redmarshall then on to Stockton (where water would be taken if required) and re-joined the main line at Northallerton.
