60001, 60082 1962-06-10 Gateshead shed
Perhaps unusually clean for 52A? In the years C1962-64 Gateshead had a squad of keen young engine cleaners who would take a Pacific and give it the ' treatment'. In this case 60001. The chime whistle - well askew ! - was a feature of No. 1 at this particular time and in usual Gateshead fashion the cover plates on the firebox casing for the washout and mud plugs have been lost or left off, something rarely seen on King's Cross or Haymarket A4s.
