Just north of York on 4th July 1959, No 60502 ‘Earl Marischal’ heads for Darlington on the ECML racetrack. A baking hot summer’s day so the fireman will have found things very warm on the footplate as the huge grate on these engines was unchanged when converted from Mikado to Pacific. No shortage of steam nonetheless!
