Ex-South Eastern & Chatham Railway, Maunsell 'E1A' class 4-4-0 No. 31165. Built as class 'E' at Ashford in Jan. 1908, rebuilt with larger boiler, cylinders and firebox in 1920 by Beyer Peacock & Co. to class 'E1' and withdrawn in May 1959. The crisp white plume from 31165's safety valves is fittingly echoed in the towering white cliffs at Folestone Warren in August 1955.
