The clerestory 3rd (W172) has been converted from the once numerous C10. and is ex-GWR No. 1181. The ends of the W171 van are distinctively V13 (originally a 6-wheeler). The sides have been considerably rebuilt, but the original door locations remain, V13 No 589, built in 1884, and converted to 171 in the week ending 1/10/1927.
