5677 1957 Barry shed

5677 1957 Barry shed

Peter kerslake says "A nice image of a couple of "Taffy Tanks" together at Barry M.P.D. in 1957 with 5677 and 5688 in residence, the location overlooked by some impressive looking houses above having good views over the depot and its locomotives.
5677 displays a "Target Number" plate indicating its recent and probable use on piloting or banking duties, I suspect, and the massive smokebox saddle and combined cylinder block with its twin valve head covers show up well on 5688.
All the class had been built at Swindon except the last fifty numbered 6650 to 6699 which came from Armstrong Whitworths of Scotswood on Tyne , the design by Mr. Collett following closely upon that of the many earlier such Welsh tank engines, his one hundred strong class serving mainly in Wales on passenger and freight duties until 1966 when 5605 was the final one left in service."
