6699 1936-08-07 Chester

Great Western Railway Collett '56xx' class 0-6-2 Tank No. 6699. Built at Swindon in Oct. 1928 and withdrawn in Dec. 1963. The very 'nose forward smokebox' design of the 56xx class gives them a purposeful look as if they can't wait to get where they're going! We don't know where that might be as 6699 plods through Chester in August 1938. Palethorpe's pork sausages are being promoted on the lineside hut, perhaps even being consumed inside!
