5692 1962-07-15 Llanelly
Recorded on camera here at Llanelly , but earlier allocated to Cardiff Cathays , 5692 shows the modified coal bunker with its recessed top , necessary to accomodate the single lamp required when the engines were working bunker first , as they often did , epecially on the Welsh valley lines where turning facilities were often absent at the various termini .
One of the last of the initial series , 5692 and her sisters were later joined with a further one hundred of the class , numbered from 6600 to 6699 , all built at Swindon save the final fifty which came from Armstrong Whitworths at Scotswood on Tyne in 1928.
No less than eighty seven of the initial batch of one hundred were to be found at Welsh Depots in 1956 , the remaining thirteen being at a variety of locations ranging from Shrewsbury , Oxley and Chester in the North to Didcot , Stourbridge , Bristol and Westbury further South.
