5679 1963 Birmingham Snow Hill

5679 1963 Birmingham Snow Hill

‘56xx’ 0-6-2T No.5679, running light northbound, was shedded at Stourbridge Junction from March 1963 until withdrawn at the end of July that year. The engine is using one of the scissor cross-overs to switch from the Down through to the platform line. These junctions were located on the north side of the plate girder bridge crossing Great Charles Street and allowed two short trains to enter and leave the main Up and Down platforms independently of each other. For this reason the single Up platform face was numbered platform 7 and continued as Platform 8, and the Down Platform 6 was continued as Platform 5.
