5607 1955 Llwynypia
On Cardiff train
A splendid shot here of an early member of one of Treherbert Depot's " 5600 " class with 5607 heading between Treherbert and the junction at Pontypridd with a rake of six raher drab looking passenger coaches , with such typical Welsh background towering high above the rows of little cottages here at Llwynpia in the Rhondda Valley .
In addition to her single " All Sations " lamp atop the smokebox 5607 has a Route Indication disc reading " TB " , which I assume indicates " Treherbert " , but I am no expert in these things !
Equally at home working local passenger duties as well as heavy coal traffic through the Welsh valleys these little engines were well regarded by their crews , with 87 of the initial batch being allocated to Motive Power Depots within South Wales and the remaining 13 to be found elsewhere with Stourbrdge having three and Didcot having four on their respective books in 1956.
