Michael Fox says "This is a Healey Mills - Fiddlers Ferry power station MGR. When the Woodhead route closed in July 1981, these trains were diverted over the Standedge line. Apart from during the 1984 miners' strike, they operated regularly until 1985, thereafter running via Todmorden. I would date this photograph to between 1981 and 1983 as the Romanian Class '56s' were common on these trains during that period. (Info from memory and my contemporary diary entries)".
