14437 1937-08-08 Stirling

At Stirling Station in August 1937, ex-Caledonian Railway John McIntosh '900' or 'Dunalastair III' class No. 14437 rests quietly before its next duty. Sixteen of this, the third of four developments of this famous and highly-regarded 4-4-0s were built at the turn of the 20th century. 14437 was built at St. Rollox in May 1900 as CR No. 898 and was withdrawn in June 1939. It has always puzzled me as to why many ex-CR locomotives had their shed plates placed at the top of their smokebox doors. Anyone?
