6010 1954c Plymouth
Peter Kerslake says "One of my favourite shots of Laira shed's 6010 as it sets off from Plymouth for Paddington on the 16th. January, 1954. 6010's driver is looking back to check that all is well and with no grubby pilot engine attached the "King" can be seen in all its splendour, its load being within the ten coach maximum for an unassisted "King" over the banks to Newton Abbot. The splendid red brick building in the background is the Royal Eye Infirmary which was operational in this capacity untill 2013. A couple of engines wait in the siding for their next call to duty with the site of the long abandined Mutley station to the right of the leading coach
