Peter Kerslake says "In earlier times 1440 seen here had ben allocated to Exeter, but as branch line workings were being steadily eroded a number migrated to Gloucester Horton Road Motive Power Depot in the early 'sixties, that Depot retaining a use for the class on the Chalford and Sharpness services during those two lines last months of operations both of which ended on the 30th October of 1964, but 1440 was not one of the class still working those services at that late date.
1440 is seen here in 1963 at Cashes Green Halt on the Chalford service, but I do not think that she survived long at Gloucester and following withdrawal would probably have been stored awaiting disposal at the the closed and former Midland Region Depot at Barnwood, just across the road from Horton Road Depot at Gloucester, where a number of her class were held when their duties had ended."
