1430 1956-08 Lydney Junction

Gloucester Motive Power Depot was responsible for providing locomotives and crews for the trans Severn line from Lydney acoss the Severn Bridge and through Sharpness to Berkeley Road on the Gloucestershire side of the river with their little " 14XX " clas 0-4-2 tank engines the mainstay of those services .
The service seen here headed by 1430 is heading from Severn Bridge station to Lydney Town as it enters Lydney's second station at Lydney Junction and it has come from the bridge and the eastern bank of the Severn .
All this came to an untimely end , however , on the 25th . of October of 1960 when the Severn Bridge came crashing down after being struck by two oil laden barges heading up river , with the resulting explosion bringing down two of its spans into the river below.

The other part of the 'junction' station was on the South Wales - Gloucester main line and was several minutes walk away from these platforms. The station was behind the vans on the right of the picture and the distance can be gauged by the mainline signals visible above the rear of the train
