1421 1949 near Penygraig
On a Llantrisant-Penygraig service.
Peter Kerslake says "A splendid image of 1421 in typiclal Welsh Valley scenery north west of Cardiff with the rows of close knit terraced houses and towering mass behind, hopefully not spoil from the coal mines but a more natural feature.
1421 enjoyed a varied life, later moving to Slough from where she worked the Marlow services in the early 'sixties.
Prior to being allocated to Slough 1421 had seen service at Llantrisant, her home depot at the date of this view which has her on a Llantrisant to Penygraig working, but she also spent time at Ebbw Junction, Goodwick, and even as far west as Plymouth's Laira Depot before finally going to Reading and then Slough.
1421 ended her days whilst allocated to Exeter M.P.D. in December of 1963 following a few years at Slough working the Marlow branch.
Whilst at Exeter the engine's last duties saw her working the Tiverton Junction to Hemyock branch line, an important branch line with a substantial dairy at Hemyock generating a regular traffic of milk tanker wagons destined for the Capital. Those who know about these things will doubtless be able to identify the ancient flush sided auto coach in use this day! "
