1450 1962-06-03 Oxford
Only the Western would paint a small tank engine in lined green.
What a splendid shot of 1450 at Oxford , a Depot at which the little engine had spent many of her working years following a move there from Slough shed in 1961.
Doubtless not long after the date of this photograph 1450 left Oxford for Taunton and then had the unusual distinction of being transferred to the Southern Region in company with 1442 for use on their Axminster to Lyme Regis branch and being later withdrawn from the Southern's Exmouth Junction Depot in May of 1965 .
Happily now preserved , as following withdrawal from B.R. service , 1450 had been the second of her class going to the Dart Valley Railway as it then was , sharing that honour with her sister 1420 .
Someone has been busy with cleaning that engine behind , with even the tender axleboxes gleaming !
