61645 1957-06-01 Lincoln Central

LNER class B17 4-6-0 No 61645 The Suffolk Regiment leaves Lincoln Central with the North Country Continental from Liverpool to Harwich on June 1, 1957.

Peter Kerslake says "Built in June 1935 61645 was allocated to London's Stratford depot, which had 22 B17s and B2s on its books at that time, the most at any one shed and just beating Colchester with its 15.
Initially intended for widespread use within former Great Eastern territory the B17s with their third cylinder and increased weight were restricted to main line duties. Their early years took them to former Great Central line services such as working between Manchester and Marylebone in addition to working on the former Great Northern main line.
There were only 16 of the original B17s still in service in January 1960 together with one rebuilt B2, 61668 "Bradford City", which lasted until August 1960."
