61626 1959 March
Coaled up and ready to go but everything else is stored 'bagged up'.
March Motive Power Depot appears to have more engines on its books than it requires in this view, and it certainly didn't want the many Britannias which , displaced from their Norwich Depot in late 1960 and early 1961 were to be sent there, ending up out of service and stored out of use there in common with these earlier examples seen here.
Class B17 61626 Brancepeth Castle is nearing the end of its working life in this 1959 photograph and was condemned in January of the following year, some eight months before 61668 Bradford City became the last Sandringham to go to the breakers' yards.
Of the seventy remaining class B2s and B17s still surviving in early 1956, March had 9 on its books with Stratford having the majority with no less than 22 allocated there.
The remaining 39 Sandringhams were to be found at Cambridge and Ipswich, each Depot having 9, whilst Colchester had 15 and Yarmouth 6.
