61633 1950s Doncaster Plant Works
Doncaster Plant Works, loco moving towards the Weigh House.
This fine image shows well the handsome lines of the Gresley " B 17 " design , especially with 61633 being in new colours and resplendent in her splendid lined green lvery .
Whilst the early members of the class were named after prominent Country Houses , a later twenty five bore the names of football clubs , complete with a replica brass football below the nameplate .
The class really made their name on the tightly timed and regular " Buffet Expresses " working between Cambridge and Kings Cross , together with duties on the demanding Liverpool Street to Norwich express passenger rosters , whilst a number later appeared on cross country duties between East Anglia and the Midlands and Manchester .
61604 " Elveden " was the first withdrawal in 1953 whilst 61668 " Bradford City " was the last survivor , being condemned at Stratford in late 1960.
