‘94xx’ 0-6-0PT 9406 was on a five-coach suburban set at Westbourne Oark on 13 June 1960. It was one of only ten of the class built at Swindon Works in the Great Western’s final year, the remaining two hundred engines being purchased from the locomotive ‘trade’ and delivered after nationalisation. The ten were also the only ‘94xx’ to have copper-capped chimneys. No. 9406 was at Old Oak for its first four years, moving to Slough in May 1951, where it remained until transferred to Southall in September 1963. Although the GWR built specific sets of suburban coaches for the Paddington commuter traffic by the time these pictures were taken they had been broken up with BR Mark 1 suburbans inter-mixed with the GWR vehicles.
