View NE, along the main Up platform from towards its southern end. This Station, along with the whole Loop, was eliminated in 1975 before the ex-Great Western Gloucester Central was converted to the only Station for Gloucester, forcing all trains on the Birmingham - Bristol axis to reverse there.

Here two Down trains are present: a BR Standard Class 5 4-6-0 on the 16.40 from Birmingham New St., and a BR Standard Class 7 4-6-2 No. 70047 on a Down parcels train. In the distance the line curves round to join the GWR at Tramway Junction off to the right, past the GWR Horton Road Locomotive Depot.

Peter Kerslake adds "Following their departure from here at Gloucester's Midland Region Eastgate station these two workings will cross over the notorious Barton Street level crossing thereby adding to the traffic delays caused by departing and arriving services into Eastgate so common in those days before they both climb up to meet the Gloucester avoiding line at Tuffley Junction, a favourite location for railway enthusiasts, the location being known a "Double Bridges" in those happy days.
As seen here 70047 for some obscure reason was never named and was later one of three "Britannias" transferred to Wolverhampton's Oxley Depot from Holyhead in June of 1965 in order to assist with that year's Summer Timetabled additional passenger workings from the Midlands down to the Westcountry, the locomotives replacing the "Castles" which had worked those services the previous year, with the "Britannias" running down through Gloucester to Bristol from Wolverhampton, returning home the same afternoon.
The lengthy and substantial covered footbridge links this station with Gloucester Central, way over to the left, and the roof of Horton Road Depot is just visible in the far right background."
