73019 is on home territory, as it was allocated to 16A Nottingham until transferred to Bristol in October 1953. Seen here on the Midland Main Line out of St. Pancras, with the North London Line crossing overhead to the left where Finchley Road signal box can be seen.

On the Down Fast between Finchley Road and West Hampstead just about to go underneath the North London. The train is a remarkably uniform set of Mk 1s in blood and custard livery (the Western was not allowed to revert to type in the matter of liveries until a few years later.) In the distance can be seen the Goods Lines portal of Belsize Tunnel, those lines being the two nearest the camera. There were a couple of sidings used for coaching stock here and I think the coaches in the background may be stabled in those.


In 1958 the Midland Region requested their Class Fives numbered 44917 and 45440 to be returned to them from their then home at Bath Green Park Depot on the Somerset and Dorset line and it was 73019 and 73028 which replaced them at Bath , both being transferred from St . Philip's Marsh .
