73010 1965c Annesley MPD

BR Riddles 'Standard 5' class 4-6-0 No. 73010. Built at Derby in August 1951 and withdrawn in June 1968.

This 1960s view of the rather stark surroundings at Annesley MPD in Nottinghamshire, illustrate the then commonplace colliery spoil-heaps that populated the Nottinghamshire coalfield. The spoil was carried by cable-attached buckets that were tipped at the summit. Almost all of these man-made hills have since been levelled or 'softened' and planted with trees to make attractive country parks.

If you look at the buffer beam you can see Patricroft stenciled upon it. The engine moved there in w/e 3/4/65. Further, the GC London Extesion closed on 4/9/66 thus putting this picture between those two dates and narrowing the time frame from nearly 6 years to 17 months.
