Bath Motive Power Depot have their 73052 looking her best in this fine view from Midford on the Somerset and Dorset network , the locomotive having gone to Bath in May of 1954 in company with 73051 both from being newly built at Derby . The Standard Class Fives were ideally suited to work the Somerst and Dorset line and replaced three Westcountry class Pacifics which had proved unsuitable during their three years or so spent allocated at Bath . 73052 is heading southwards away from Midford on the down line , the station , some four miles from Bath , being hidden by the stock in this view at what is probably the most iconic location on the Somerset and Dorset main line through the Mendip Hills. Midford did not handle a great deal of freight traffic , but the line northwards from here to Bath was single track only and the signalmen at Midford worked hard , especially on Summer Saturdays to avoid delays to through passenger services heading northwards to Bath and beyond
