73086 1959-05-06 Swanley
BR 5MT 4-6-0 No 73086 with the 4.22pm from Ramsgate leaving Swanley on 6 May 1959.
Robert Waterman says "This is 8 coach set 474 again on the 3rd leg of its daily Mons-Sats diagram running from Ramsgate to London for the second time in that same day. It had gone down in the morning as the 10.35am and if I recall correctly returned to Ramsgate again as the 8.35pm from Victoria.
Note also the extra pair of tracks soon to be commissioned as part of the Chislehurst Power Box re-signalling and quadrupling between Bickley Junction and Swanley. As part of the Kent Coast electrification the third rail was also re-laid on the existing electrified section between Victoria and Gillingham with heavier section third rail (welded rather than jointed) and presumably a strengthened power supply to cope with up to 14 car boat trains (12CEP/BEP + 2xMLVs for 4000hp). Evidence of the new 3rd rail can be seen in the 4 foot."
