BR standard Class '5' No. 73069 at Hindley North with the LCGB 'Two Cities Limited' railtour on 23rd June 1968. The tour started in Liverpool with '8F' No. 48033 taking the train to Manchester and then back to Earlestown where No. 73069 took over back to Manchester Victoria. No. 48033 completed the final leg to Liverpool via Stockport and Hartford. Unlike other stations on this route, which have been left with island platforms, both lines in the picture have been lifted and trains now use those out of sight to the right. Hindley station, first opened in 1848, was renamed Hindley North in 1950 but has long since reverted to its original name
