73082 1965-11 Axminster

73082 Camelot was a member of the Standard Class Fives designed at Doncaster with 42 being built there and a further 130 being constructed at Derby , with 73082 entering service from Derby in 1955 , allocated initially to the Southern Region's Stewarts Lane and then in 1959 to Nine Elms Depot. Twenty of the class allocated to the Southern Region were unique in being the only members of their class to receive names starting from late 1958 , those names being taken from withdrawn members of the King Arthur class . Saved from the cutters ' torches at Dai Woodham's Barry scrapyard in early 1974 by the Camelot Locomotive Society this engine finally left Barry in October of 1979 for the Bluebell Line , but a major problem was that the engine had no tender as , in common with other such yards , a number of tenders had been sold by Woodhams some while earlier , including that belonging to 73082 . An appropriate tender chassis was , however , located at the nearby Welsh steelworks which had earlier purchased a number of such tenders from Woodhams and the day was thereby saved ! 73082 finally returned to steam again in October of 1995 and is presently housed on the Bluebell Line
