1914 1920 Crewe Works
LNWR Claughton No 1914 Patriot when new at Crewe Works in 1920. It was the first of the post-war series of 70 engines and became the company’s war memorial engine, and was accordingly painted in plain black. The extended nameplate had the name PATRIOT in bold, underlined, and below it, IN MEMORY OF THE FALLEN L&NWR EMPLOYEES 1914-1919.
