63465 1962-02-03 Norton South

Two Q7s. One with a freight for Tees yard passing down Stockton Bank. The other is 63462 light engine being turned on the Norton triangle so that the remainder of the light engine trip back to Tyne Dock would be smokebox-first. Note the shunting pole wedged on the front running plate, quite typical of the area but it was usual practice to wedge it through the lifting hole in the frame so as to minimise the risk of loss.
63465 was one of the class formerly used on the Consett iron ore trains and although it has given up its Westinghouse pump to the replacement 9F it retains the cranked vacuum pipe stand - a tell-tale sign of its past history.
