Sir Vincent Raven designed two classes of 0-8-0 for the North Eastern Railway commencing in 1913 with his highly successful 2-cyl. 'Q6s of which 120 were built. Then in 1919, (for little initial discernible reason or benefit) he added the 'Q7' a 3-cylinder version of which only 15 were built, the last ten by the LNER in 1924. Once allocated to Tyne Dock, they found their niche working the fearsome gradients to Consett with the famed iron ore trains. 63466 in ex-works condition passing Darlington's North Road Station in August1955, It was built at Darlington in Mar. 1924 as LNER No. 625 and was withdrawn in Dec. 1962.
