With 62054 and 70009 on shed Despite it being a Sunday it looks surprisingly empty

This interesting view of March Depot in February of 1962 does not show the large number of " Britannias " which were stored in the open and out of service here following their transfer from Norwich in 1960 and 1961 .
It does , however , include 70009 , " Alfred The Great " ,one such transfer which seems to be in use and is outside the Running Shed , unlike the majority of its companions .
Transferred from Norwich to March in September of 1961 " Alfred The Great " had been one of nineteen " Britannias " sent to March during the period from late in 1960 to late 1961 , but the majority of the class were very soon after arrival at March shunted on to the Depot's " Dead Line " , there being no work for them at their new home , although 70036 , 70037 and 70038 were more fortunate in moving from March to Immingham in November of 1960 , where they were well liked and put to good use .
