Shed 1950-05-29 Elgin

BR shed code 61C Elgin MPD was under the control of Keith and continued to service locomotives until July1961.
John Ross reports that the building still survives in a modified form as part of The Moray Council fleet maintenance facility, building is still recognisable, the roof was replaced as the inside of the shed was full of pillars to support the original structure and recently its length was extend by adding a modern industrial building to the front of the section shown in the photograph. Inside the building still has the white washed walls that were there when in rail use and part of one of the inspection pits is used for checking the underside of the Council lorries in for maintenance. The base of the water tower also still intact and this is used to hold the chemicals and kit for power washing the bin lorries. Possibly more remarkable is the nearby older 2-road engine shed built in 1860s by the Morayshire Railway still survives and apart from the addition of a roller door is still in as built condition and is now used for the repair and service of caravans.
