25797 1938-08-27 Rugby MPD

Ex-London & North Western Railway Bowen Cooke Prince of Wales 4-6-0 No. 25797. Built by Beardmore of Dalmuir, Glasgow in November 1921 as L&NWR No. 293 and withdrawn in June 1947.

A fine portrait of a rather grubby 25797 under the huge coaling tower at Rugby MPD taken in August 1938. This is one of the 91 built in Glasgow by Wm. Beardmore & Co., a company that built only a modest 392 steam locomotives between 1920 and 1930 before winding down its railway operations.
