5659 1931-05-25 Rugby Station

Ex-London & North Western Railway Bowen Cooke 'Prince of Wales' class 4-6-0 No. 5659 'Odin'. Built at Crewe in February 1916 as L&NWR No. 2442 and withdrawn in March 1935

The LMS era saw the decimation former L&NWR passenger locomotives, relatively few survived beyond the 1930s. A combination of Derby (instead of Crewe) influence and new Stanier types was the reason. 'Odin' was named after the Norse God of war who, in metallic form, is seen ready to depart with a Down Express from Rugby in May 1931.
