Peter Kerslake says "46254 City of Stoke on Trent was drafted to Old Oak Common depot to help out whilst the majority of the Western Region's Kings were off the road after cracks were found in the main frames of their bogies. It arrived at Old Oak Common on 23rd January 1956, remaining there until 25th February and was joined by 46257 City of Salford with 46207 Princess Arthur of Connaught and 46210 Lady Patricia early in the following month. Whilst seconded to the Western Region the four Pacifics worked from Paddington to Wolverhampton, Bristol and Plymouth on express passenger duties before returning to their respective home depots during February 1956."
