No.46237 City of Bristol
The cameraman has recorded 46237 " City of Bristol " very nicely in this atmospheric view and although there isn't any sunshine the slightly misty background adds to the effect here in the ' sixties at Wigan .
In April of 1955 " City of Bristol " spent four weeks working on the Western Region from their Old Oak Common Depot in a series ot test runs to evaluate performance of that Region's " Kings " , a number of which were beginning to cause concern with those in authority both at Swindon and Paddington as demands on the " Kings " was increaasing with heavier loadings and tightly timed workings .
" City of Bristol " found herelf on the Western Region working passenger services of much lighter loads than those usually handled on her customary West Coast Main Line duties , and on her initial run down from Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads she had just nine coaches behind her tender compared with a reported loading of seventeen coaches whilst working on her " Home Territory " a week or so earlier .
With both turntables at Bristol's Bath Road Depot being too small to accomodate 46237 she had to be turned following her arrival at Temple Meads by means of the North Somerset Junction triangle before returning to Paddington .
Accordingly 46237 was then rostered to duties from Paddington to Plymouth on the down " Cornish Riviera " and after an overnight spent at Laira , and turning via the Lipson Triangle , returning from Plymouth's North Road station back to Paddington the following day , additionally being used on a couple of runs from Paddington to Wolverhampton later in that month before returning home to Camden
