The late Jim Carter's railway photography is rightly held in high regard. I was indeed fortunate to acquire in auction several of his first class negatives of which this is one. Stanier's 'Coronation' class were Jim's stated favourites and it is fitting that in April 1962, he should have taken this superb study of the fittingly named 'Sir Willam A. Stanier F.R.S'. 46257 was built at Crewe in Dec. 1947 as LMS No. 6256 and was withdrawn in Oct. 1964.
