7816 1965-07-16 Gloucester Central

On 16th. July 1965, in the final year for Western Region steam, and with Severn Tunnel Junction shed still open to steam 7816, "Frilsham Manor " now minus nameplates and smokebox door numberplate, but with her cabside plate still in position, pauses at Gloucester Central with a freight from the South Wales line which unusually includes four covered open shoc wagons, contents unknown !There is clearly a change of footplate men taking place , with some "oiling up" in progress together with the tender being topped up from the column serving this side of the station.7816 had been a St. Blazey allocated Cornish engine in earlier years but had just been transferred to Gloucester Horton Road from Didcot. Withdrawn in November. You can just see the "GWR" on the tender, which made 7816 quite famous in its final months.
