Great Northern Railway Ivatt 'K1' (LNER 'Q2') class 0-8-0 No. 417. Built at Doncaster in January 1905, rebuilt in 1908 with a Schmidt superheater and piston valves and withdrawn in December. 1935 as LNER No. 3417.

Known by their highly appropriate nickname of 'Long Toms', the Ivatt 0-8-0s were a class of 55 engines. They were built to transport coal from the Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, and South Yorkshire coalfields to the insatiable demands of London, performing this onerous task successfully. A up coal train is illustrated, passing the long-closed (c.1931) box at Ganwick with the rear of the train having just emerged from Hadley Wood tunnel.
