5062 1958-09-03 Cowley Bridge Junction
GWR Castle 4-6-0 No 5062 Earl of Shaftesbury with the 11.10am Swansea-Penzance passing Cowley Bridge Junction on 3 September 1958.
Peter Kerslake says "Drifting down through Cowley Bridge Junction, to the east of Exeter St. Davids 5062 passes the Cowley Bridge Inn and hotel its wood framing having appeared in countless photographs over the past years, the Southern Region line to North Devon and beyond branching away behind the signal box, this area with its close proximity to the River Exe on the far left being notorious for severe flooding.
Named Tenby Castle from new in June 1937 until renaming in the same year 5062 was allocated from new to Wolverhampton, later moving to Newton Abbot, Exeter, Taunton, Swindon, Bristol Bath Road and finally to Neath and Llanelly from where it was eventually condemned in September 1962."
