62271 1952 Craigellachie

The idyllic scenes on many ex-Great North of Scotland Railway's routes are enhanced by the delightful 4-4-0s that were its principal motive power since its earliest days. Here alongside the water tank and turntable at Craigellachie simmers Pickergill 'D40' No. 62271 circa 1952. We are fortunate to have preserved and famed classmate 'Gordon Highlander' still to behold. Very sadly, there seems to have been no attempt to resurrect it to steam once again. Surely the heritage Strathspey Railway is the ideal candidate?
