70035 1965-03-05 Winwick Quay
Peter Kerslake says "70035 "Rudyard Kipling", a Norwich engine from new in December1952, was permanently transferred to the Midland Region in December1963 following periods spent at March and Immingham, when such wholesale transfer of all the former Eastern Region "Britannias" at Norwich followed those previously on the Western and Southern Regions, the transfers effectively saving many of the class from wholesale withdrawal as those former stalwarts of the former Great Eastern main line between Norwich the East Anglian coastal centres and Liverpool Street had been left unloved and unwanted at March depot in the open with no work available for them.
70035 looks to be in a presentable condition here in March1965, now allocated to Carlisle Kingmoor and following its earlier spells at March and Immingham between June1958 and December1963, Kingmoor being its final home until withdrawal came in December1967."
