70041 1960c Hitchin

Off 40B. The resident Drewry shunter is adding a van to the rear of the Up train.

Peter Kerslake adds "Hitchin, the junction from the East Coast main line to Cambridge is host here to 70041 "Sir John Moore" and if this is a 1960's photograph the locomotive would then have been one of the first three "Britannias" allocated to Immingham, heading there in December1960 from their former home at Norwich.
The "Britannias" which spent time at Immingham were well received, working between Kings Cross and Cleethorpes on express passenger rosters as well as taking fish and perishables traffic from Grimsby, and it is apparent that this working has a mixture of passenger and express freight coaches and vanson an up working.
Note the two through roads, used by the non stop express workings to and from Kings Cross on the East Coast main line, and the signals in the distance have cleared for a through working, as they didn't all stop at Hitchin!"
