70041 1961c Kings Cross
Following displacement in the late 'fifties and early 'sixties by diesels from the former Great Eastern section of the Eastern Region a number of the "Britannias" which had performed so well in the previous years on the Liverpool Street and North Norfolk express workings found themselves allocated at Immingham from December 1960 for exactly three years.
Rostered on the tightly timed express trains running from the Humber to the Capital the "Britannias" looked rather out of place amongst Gresley's Pacifcs at Kings Cross on such workings, but 70041 "Sir John Moore" has been captured nicely on film here following arrival at Kings Cross.
Allocated from new in March 1953 to Stratford this engine spent seven years working between Liverpool Street and Norwich and following its subsequent three years spent at Immingham 70041 ended up, as did its sisters, on the London Midland Region, being withdrawn from Carlisle Kingmoor in April1967.
