70046 1966c Chester
Running without Anzac nameplates so probably circa 1966.
Peter Keslake says " A splendid and nicely composed shot of 70046 " Anzac " complete with a steam leak from its regulator gland late in its lifetime whilst shedded at its final home at Carlisle Kingmoor frrom where the majority of the " Britannias " ended their days in early 1967 .
Allocated from new in June1964 to Holyhead " Anzac "would have worked the Irish Mail and Boat Trains to and from Euston before making the run of various Midland Region Depots as was the case in the years between 1961 and 1964 .
Sent to Banbury in September1965 following three months at Wolverhampton's Oxley Depot, and in company with the seven others of its class 70047 was rostered to the passenger workings between Nottingham and Marylebone, providing Banbury Depot with an extended lease of life before it closed in October1966 .
Before going to Banbury " Anzac " had earlier been pressed into service during the 1965 Summer Services to work the Saturday holiday specials from Wolverhampton to Bristol and back in company with 70045 " Lord Rowallaaan " and 70053 " Moray Firth " "
