70032 1953-08-16 Crewe

Photographed from the footbridge at the northern end of Crewe station, the splendid vantage point from which so many of the goings on could be seen and recorded, 70032 Tennyson, allocated to Manchester's Longsight Depot is doubtless heading home to Manchester London Road station and is accordingly crossing over from the main line to the north in order to take the Manchester line curving away to the right in this view. 70032 had gone to Longsight from Holyhead in the January1953, having spent just a month at Holyhead as a newly built engine following its completion at Crewe in December1952 and subsequently went on to spend time at Trafford Park, Willesden, and at both Depots at Carlisle, being condemned from Carlisle Kingmoor in September1967.
