70041 1960s Leeds Central

This is a nice sharp portrait of a well turned out 70041 Sir John Moore at Leeds clearly after its transfer to Immingham from its former Great Eastern territory when working between Norwich and Liverpool Street .Allocated from newly built in 1953 to Stratford, but then heading to Norwich Depot in January1959 this Britannia was in company with 70039, Sir Christopher Wren and 70040 Clive of India the first to be moved away from Norwich, all heading for Immingham Depot in December 1960.Like Norwich many years earlier, the footplate crews at Immingham readily accepted their newly acquired Britannias and they were well looked after and put to good use on Cleethorpes to Kings Cross express passenger duties running via Boston and Peterborough as well as running to here at Leeds on daily Out and Back rosters with Cleethorpes workings via Scunthorpe, as well as regularly appearing on fish and Perishables fast fitted freight rosters from Grimsby .Transferred to Carlisle Upperby in December1963 Sir John Moore was withdrawn from Carlisle Kingmoor in April, 1967.
