70020 1964-08-17 London Euston
In terrible external condition - you would think it was black. The re-building of Euston is well under way, note the temporary canopies to protect passengers. By the end1963 all the Britannias were allocated on the London Midland Region, with those formerly based on the Eastern Region at at Immingham and March being the last to join the earlier transfers from the Eastern, Western and Southern Regions, with Willesden Depot as a result having many there from that time. 70020 Mercury, seen here was allocated to Willesden at the date of this view, a transfer to there from Carlisle Kingmoor in May 1963 with the engine later going to Crewe Motive Power Depot in January1965. An Old Oak Common engine from new in July, 1951 it was rostered fom its first home in its early days to the usual variety of duties including passenger workings from Paddington especially to Bristol and the West of England before a transfer to Cardiff Canton in December1956 and its subsequent transfer to the London Midland Region at Carlisle Kingmoor in September1961.
